Lon Acheson, SAMSŪ AMSŪ Principal Marine Surveyor "Surving" The Mid Atlantic, Chesapeake Bay, and Annapolis Areas including the Delmarva Peninsula 301-318-1089 - Fax: 410-798-9846 |
| The Marine Surveyor is hired by and works exclusively for the buyer or owner which ever the case may be. In other words, he represents the vessel rather than any one party's vested interest in it. The buyer/owner will receive, for a fee, a Report of Survey of which he has sole ownership. | |
| 1. Pre-Purchase Condition and Value (C&V) Survey. A full hull survey conducted to determine the physical condition and value of the vessel. The purpose of the survey is to aid the buyer in his purchase decision by providing an overview of the vessel's condition, its value and its suitability for intended use. This report can also be used to obtain financing and insurance coverage. | ![]() |
| 2. Sea Trials: Usually in conjunction with #1above if required or requested. The objective of a sea trial is to primarily determine the condition of the operating machinery and/or inspect the sails and sail controls on sail boats while underway. | ![]() |
| 3. Insurance / Compliance Inspection Survey. Very similar in scope to a C&V (#1 above). The survey is provided by the owner to insurance underwriters and other agencies. It provides evidence upon which risk can be established by determining seaworthiness and value as well as compliance with USCG Regulations and ABYC Standards and Recommendations. Many insurance companies require an Insurance Survey every five years, especially on larger and older vessels. This is sometimes referred to as a Re-Insurance Survey. | ![]() |
| 4. On A Mooring. No need to move your vessel to a slip. In the greater Annapolis Area we will come to your vessel on a mooring to perform an Insurance Inspection Survey. | ![]() |
| 5. Walk Through Inspection: An inspection to provide a subjective opinion of the claims made by the seller, a broker listing or a published advertisement. The surveyor will provide to the interested party either a verbal or e-mail evaluation (sometimes with photographs) based upon observations only. Sometimes referred to as a "drive-by" survey. | ![]() |
| 6. Appraisal Inspection: To determine the value of a vessel for the owner who is in the process of re-financing or seeking a line of credit against assets. | ![]() |
| 7. Insurance Claims Investigation: Usually requested by an insurance underwriter after a claim has been filed. This usually involves, but is not limited to, the investigation of collision, allision, sinking, theft, fire and mechanical failure claims. | ![]() |
| 8. Individual Instruction: We can schedule your own personalized instruction to familiarize you with the operating systems, characteristics and design features aboard your vessel. | ![]() |
| 9. Photographing your vessel while underway: This service is offered in the greater Annapolis, MD area only. Using our boat as a platform we will photograph your vessel (power or sail) on all points and aspects of sail. We will be provided you with a CD of at least 100 dynamic pictures of you, your crew and your vessel while underway. | ![]() |
| 10. Buying Decision Consultant: We will accompany you as you visit your list of "boat candidates". We will aid you, as a third party consultant, in your buying decision. Assistance and recommendations will be based on design, intended use, value and your own personal current and future needs and preferences. | ![]() |
