Principal Marine Surveyor
"Surving" Coastal South West Florida from Sarasota to Marco Island.
|SurvTech, Inc was incorporated in September of 2000 in the state of Maryland.|
Lon Acheson, AMS®, the Founder, President and Principal Surveyor of SurvTech, Inc was born in Indiana and spent most of his formative years growing up in the Mid West. He became fascinated at an early age with boats and built pond sailors and miniature battery and gas powered speed boats to satisfy his curiosity. In his early teens he built his first skiff from plywood using mail order scantlings. He became even more fascinated with boats and the sea when he made his first trans Atlantic passage on a maritime vessel the summer after graduating from High School.
College eventually brought him to Maryland and constant exposure to the water and the boating way of life. Lon has owned several vessels both power and sail since his first "real" boat a 14' center board day sailor. Lon is an experienced sailor and for several seasons taught the beginning sailor weekend course at the Annapolis Sailing School.
After college he first went to work for NASA as an engineer but spent the rest of his first career in the private sector working for companies that supplied OEM and aftermarket parts, sub systems and systems to the marine and aviation markets.
Lon started his second career in 1998 when he was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to apprentice with Mr. Clyde Eaton, a well known and highly respected Marine Surveyor in the Annapolis, MD area. Mr Eaton is no longer surveying vessels but the name Clyde Eaton and Eaton Associates is still highly regarded to this day.
In early 2000 Lon attended the Chapman School of Seamanship resident Marine Surveyor Course in Stewart, FL. After graduation, he became a full time independent Marine Surveyor. Later that year he was accepted into the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors® (SAMS®) with Surveyor Associate (SA) status. Today Lon is a fully accredited (AMS®) member in good standing with SAMS®.
SurvTech and all of its associates subscribe to the high standards and Code of Ethics established and promulgated by SAMS®.
SurvTech uses the USCG CFR Mandatory Standards, ABYC voluntary Standards and Recommendations and NFPA guidelines in the conduct of all marine surveys.
